Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) has unveiled an intricate haptic installation composed of thousands of plaster-cast objects at this year's Design Miami, as shown in this exclusive video produced by Dezeen.

The installation was created by New York-based designer and SCAD sculpture graduate Sarah Fonzi as part of a wider showcase of alumni work within the SCAD booth at Design Miami.

Fonzi's piece incorporates toy ships, umbrellas and beetles, to give the booth's walls a richly textural and sculptural quality.

At the centre of the booth, SCAD furniture design graduate and New York designer Christian Dunbar presented a solid-wood desk defined by sweeping curves and detailed craftsmanship.

SCAD design for sustainability graduate Adrian Pepe presented two embroidered wool tapestries informed by the culture and mythology of his home city Beirut, Lebanon.

Meanwhile, Washington DC-based designer and SCAD fibres graduate Carl Johnson created three suspended light sculptures crafted from metal wire woven with cotton.

Together, the alumni works explored the contrast between softness and hardness, focusing on natural materials and handmade processes to showcase the craftsmanship of each alumni designer.

SCAD is home to over 18,500 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in programmes spanning architecture, interior design, film and more.
