A rug contest, new collections and an acquisition take center stage | Rug Report
This week's report looks at what's happening with Obeetee Rugs, Stark, SHIRR rugs and Jamie Stern Furniture, Carpet, Leather and Fabric.
HIGH POINT – This week’s rug news includes several new collections, an acquisition and a contest.
Obeetee Rugs has launched its new Terra Collection to showcase the blend of timeless traditional techniques with a contemporary design sensibility.
“The Terra Collection was inspired by the organic textures of the sea and sand,” said Patricia Carreras Ben-Zvi, president of Obeetee, Inc. “All designs were hand-painted in house and crafted using the most luxurious fibers on the market. The union between fine art, high-end materials and skilled craftsmanship has translated into beautiful pieces.”
“We believe the variety of the designs in the collection reflect the range of styles our hospitality customers are looking for. And with Obeetee’s forward-looking design coupled with our superior production capabilities, we are able to deliver these unique, quality constructions at scale,” she added.
Some of Ben-Zvi’s favorite pieces in the Terra Collection include the hand-knotted Oasis rug crafted from chunky New Zealand wool. It features a watercolor-like blend of natural tones, adding both depth and inviting texture. The hand-knotted Jasmine Rug brings a fresh take on a Khotan-inspired design on a larger scale. Crafted with hand-carded wool, its high-low texture enhances the intricate motifs while a blend of warm neutrals, blues and green accents bring depth and a refined color palette.
The hand-tufted Sardinian wool Fresco Rug was inspired by the diverse textures of landscapes and has a palette of warm neutrals and rich juniper greens. The Harper Rug sports an optic, tile-inspired design that blends greens, yellows and natural fiber-dyed colors. Made from recycled PET in a flatweave construction, it’s ideal for high-traffic areas and versatile enough for indoor/outdoor.

Luxury lifestyle brand Soucie Horner has launched SHIIR Rugs’ Odyssey Collection.
“We believe design should speak to the joy of exploration and take you places, whether that’s to another time or across the world,” said Shea Soucie, SHIIR Rugs Co-founder and Principal of Soucie Horner. “The Odyssey collection does that, with odes to history and travel woven throughout. The Odyssey Collection also meets a growing demand for hand-crafted rugs that are more than just beautiful – they are interesting works of art that add timeless elegance to any space.”
The Fall 2024 release includes eight new rugs that layer spaces with stories of discovery through its bold designs. These include everything from the semi-nomadic Tuareg tribes of the Sahara and the bark of the sycamore tree to Mid-Century European artist Josef Albers. Constructed by master artisans in India and Nepal, the Odyssey collection rugs are hand-woven of premium materials such as leather, linen, wool and cashmere, showcasing versatile, mostly geometric patterns and offering designers multiple opportunities for customization.
