Chelsea House bets on designer Jamie Merida for its next chapter
ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – Chelsea House has named award-winning interior and product designer Jamie Merida as its new creative director.
In his new role, Merida will help guide the creative vision of Chelsea House, bringing a fresh perspective to the brand while honoring its distinctive style, heritage and craftsmanship.
A natural evolution of Merida’s 10-year relationship with Chelsea House, the announcement coincides with Merida’s 10th product collection for the brand—The Jamie Merida Edit—debuting at the October High Point Market.
“(Jamie) has an extraordinary ability to honor tradition without being bound by it,” said Pam Cain, Chelsea House president. “His design talent, retail insight and experience across interiors and product development make him a natural fit for this role.”
Since beginning his product collaboration with Chelsea House in 2016, Merida has developed a distinctive voice within the assortment, reimagining classic forms through thoughtful proportions, unexpected details and a sophisticated use of color, materials and finish.
As creative director, Merida will spearhead the company’s product development and brand presentation, helping create a cohesive point of view across collections, merchandising and visual storytelling. His expanded role also includes the creative direction of the Chelsea House showroom, which he is redesigning for Fall High Point Market.
“Chelsea House has been an important part of my creative life for the past 10 years, so stepping into the role of creative director feels incredibly meaningful,” said Merida. “I have tremendous respect for the history of the brand and everything it represents. I’m excited to build on that foundation.”
The Jamie Merida Edit collection reflects the influences that have shaped his work over the past decade as well as a vision for what comes next. In addition to his work as a product designer, Merida is principal of Jamie Merida Interiors and founder of Bountiful Home, the Easton, Maryland, home furnishings destination he has led for 25 years.
