New & Noteworthy: December Trend Advisor Edition
“The Barbara Barry Collection for Baker-McGuire that debuted at the October edition of High Point Market was a stunning display of artistry and craftsmanship. Each of the 27 pieces in the collection embodied the beauty and warmth of nature while staying true to the brand’s luxurious elegance. The pieces in this collection were crafted from exquisite materials such as honey onyx, warm bronze and walnut. Together, these elements evoked a sense of organic serenity and highlighted the natural richness of each material. “Photo courtesy of Baker-McGuire. Kristen Moonjian, FS
“While visiting Accent Décor’s new showroom in the IHFC building at High Point Market. I noticed this scalloped/ruffled ceramic platter in ombré neutral tones that is truly on trend. With all the scalloped edges I have been witnessing in both hard and soft home décor, I think this piece with its dimensional aspect is the perfect accent to add to any home environment.” Photo courtesy of Nancy Fire. – Nancy Fire
“Plaids have spent the past year or so reinventing themselves. Sometimes color wakes them up. In more-recent cases, however, the character of the pattern is what sets today’s designs apart from those of the past. That’s certainly the case when it comes to the Aria End Table, new from Arteriors. Its disc-shaped tabletop is made from Bengal marble with veining that evokes a loose and airy, thin-lined plaid. The cone-shaped antique brass cast-aluminum base is part of a related incoming trend: geometric references. We expect to see geometry build in both shape and pattern throughout the next 6-18 months.” Photo courtesy of Arteriors. – Michelle Lamb
“My fashion-inspired find for this edition of New & Noteworthy is the Kravet Couture X Altuzarra collaboration of home textiles. The collection of pillows, textiles and wallcoverings is so rich and unique for the home space. Taking its inspiration from Altuzarra’s deep roots in color, print and texture as his design language, together with Kravet’s exceptional craftsmanship and expertise, this collection hits all the high notes. The bold amorphous print, evocative of a Rorschach inkblot test, is drawn directly from the Askania coat in his Autumn/Winter 2023 runway collection and is by far my favorite. The print recalls large, lavish and futuristic butterflies taking flight, and the color combinations are spot on.” Photo courtesy of Patti Carpenter. – Patti Carpenter
“Dopamine décor is a trend that’s taken a couple of years to gain traction because it can be quite … vivid … and not a style that slides smoothly into any home environment. Push dopamine décor too far, and it can look clownish and jejune. Don’t commit to it enough; you may not trigger the motivation and good moods the trend intends to deliver. I went through nearly 8,000 images from fall markets on a quest for the item that could create an immediate sense of childish joy and positivity while also being viable as a tongue-in-chic accent in almost any décor. Here it is: the newly released Hoptimist table lamp. Touch its bouncing head to lighten any room, and your mood.” Photo courtesy of Tom Mirabile. – Tom Mirabile
