New & Noteworthy: September Trend Advisor edition
This month, our Trend Advisors scouted artisanal textiles, Alvar Aalto-inspired candles, eye-catching ceramic decor, and great looks for fall.
“The fluid curves of Alvar Aalto’s 1936-1937 Savoy Vase were a wonderfully relaxed Modernist alternative to the machined lines of the then-dominant Art Deco style. Aalto’s name means wave in Finnish, and the vase’s meandering lines look like ripples of wind on water. Who doesn’t need that sort of peaceful, grounded reference these days? That may be why, almost 90 years after the original vase was introduced, Iittala introduced a line of Aalto-inspired candles as part of its AW2025 collection. Available in pillar candles or container candle forms, fire and earth add to the original references to wind and water to form a beautiful new design.” – Keith Recker, Table Magazine. “Fall is approaching! In our retail store, we already have fall on the floor with jewel tones in faux stems, preserved textures, candles, etc. BUT the hardest part of fall is mixing in Halloween and seasonal decor that could also transcend the seasons. I found the perfect pot from Accent Decor in Atlanta that does just that! Shaped like a pumpkin, the Spiced Pumpkin pot comes in three sizes and colors and is perfect for a plant, container or fall decorating piece that can also work during the other seasons. We just unpacked the black colorway, and I am loving this collection in the shop!” – Madeline Stewart, Mustard Seed Market & Home. Photo courtesy of Accent Decor
Odessa from Sister by Studio Ashby pairs artisanal craft with a collected, mix-and-match elegance. Hand-warp-printed and meticulously woven, its abstract, cloud-like pattern and misty, painterly hues capture the quiet romance of early morning skies. Perfectly timed for today’s love of artisanal and tactile textiles, it’s a standout in the Aurora Collection, available through Yarn Collective.” – Saana Baker, The Textile Eye. “For the past several years, black has dominated the neutral realm. But as we saw at the end of last year, and even more so at the early 2025 trade fairs in Europe, black has retreated in favor of vanilla, oat, sand and white. Using a warm neutral is one way to update the black-and-white duos that are signaling a revival. Another important and growing approach is to emphasize white, rather than black. These ceramic figures from Artist Xiang Yang for Currey & Company do exactly that. Each one provides a perfect example of how black/white combinations are evolving to become more relevant for today’s consumer. ” Leigh Ann Schwarzkopf, Project Partners Network. “Moving into the fall season, the mood gets cozy once again. From the newly released Behr 2026 Color Trends palette, Rodeo Tan N240-5 is an earthy mix of caramel and terracotta. As a warm background color, it sets the stage for layering in natural blues and greens for those seeking relaxation and restoration in their personal spaces.
