Not just for Christmas: Red and green played a role in 2024 trends
Fashion Snoops has determined its picks for the memorable trends of 2024 and looks ahead to upcoming trends in 2025.
NEW YORK – Consumer insight and trend forecasting company Fashion Snoops (FS) has determined its picks for the memorable trends of 2024 and looks ahead to upcoming trends in 2025.
BRAT SUMMER This summer was all about the mood-boosting and self-celebratory world of Brat, according to FS. Charli XCX’s sixth studio album Brat influenced music, beauty and apparel tastes. The term “brat summer” was coined, describing a summer spent carefree, confident and in the clubs. Featured as a solid shade on the album cover and across the release’s marketing material, Brat Green — an electric lime green — became an in-demand shade.
ACCESSORIZATION OF EVERYTHING Hyper-personalization reached a fever pitch in 2024, colliding with ‘little treat culture’ in the unexpected accessorizing of everything, from food items to water bottles, the trend experts said. Consumers are seeking out small moments of levity to bring to their day. In addition, the current streak of individuality running through culture means that anything can become a vehicle for self-expression.
RED RISING Trend advisors believe that red defined 2024, evolving from the saturated pinks of 2023’s Barbiecore into a bold, powerful hue with a sensual edge. This vibrant shade captures the spirit of joy and escapism, offering consumers a playful and expressive escape from the everyday.
ALGAE ALCHEMY Of all the biomaterials to make sustainable promises in recent years, seaweed and algae emerged in 2024 as standout, scalable solutions poised to disrupt industries from packaging to fashion. Growing consumer desire to reconnect with nature has seen kelp-inspired hues come to the fore, according to the FS advisors. The SS 25 runway was awash with seaweed shades.
LIT GIRL Consumers are now using reading time as the ultimate luxury—despite a general decline in reading over the last decade—leading to the Lit Girl Summer trend. Designer brand Miu Miu notably hosted a summer reads pop-up in New York. The trend was promoted with lifestyle shifts in analog living, as we saw with the rise of new book bars opening across various cities. The Lit Girl aesthetic embraced colors like rich browns, navy blues, and deep berry shades.
These are the three trends the FS team is paying attention to for next year:
DAILY DECADENCE A surge in small-scale luxuries and daily indulgences across beauty and wellness routines. As economic pressures and sociopolitical tensions intensify, consumers are seeking accessible forms of escape and self-care.
ENTERING THE MICRO-VERSE More hyper-local approaches across hospitality, craft and design that emphasize regional distinctiveness and circular systems such as naturally dyed textiles using indigenous plants, and nutrient-conscious design. The shift is amplified by growing environmental awareness, a desire for authentic cultural connections and color palettes and materials that reflect geographical identity and seasonal availability.
MOVEMENT MEDICINE An emergence in dance therapies, somatic disciplines and movement-enhancing design embraces a full range of motion. Think: adjustable silhouettes, breathable layers, and adaptable closures that support dynamic movement. Therapeutic wear that bridges active and emotional wellness with mineral-infused fabrics, meditative mantra prints and distraction-free technology.
