World Market pushes ahead with prudent store expansion

ALMEDA, CALIF. – Lifestyle specialty retailer World Market is opening a new store this week, moving forward with the modestly paced expansion to the chain that began last year.
The retailer’s newest store officially grand opens on May 1 at the Bergen Town Center in Paramus and will be its fourth location in New Jersey. The new unit brings the chain’s store count to 246, edging the 245 stores it had when World Market was acquired by Kingswood Capital Management in early 2021. The equity firm paid $110 million to then-owner Bed Bath & Beyond, which was in the process of selling off assets to streamline its business.
Last fall, World Market announced it would open 5 locations – the first new stores for the operation since its acquisition. Before the openings began, the chain was at 239 units.
The new 14,809-sq.-ft.-foot store in Paramus is located next to Nordstrom Rack in the shopping center. It will offer World Market’s assortment of furniture, home décor, home textiles, tabletop, kitchenware, gifts and handicrafts along with international food and beverages.
“This location is perfect for connecting with both our loyal customers and new shoppers,” said Eric Hunter, CEO of World Market.
