Pooky partners with Samuels & Sons
Pooky Lighting and passementerie icon Samuel & Sons have collaborated on a collection of lampshades, flush mounts and pendants that debuted at High Point Market earlier this week and will launch officially on Nov. 3.
The 13-piece collection is crafted in linens and silks featuring intricately detailed braids and embroidered borders with a palette that spans rich coral and emerald, gentle sky blue and marshmallow pink.
Pooky Chief Creative Officer Jo Plant said she can envision the lighting “in the chicest of bars or members clubs in London, Paris and NYC; or in homes with a collected or layered aesthetic that combines furniture from different eras with personal treasures or finds, that ought not to go together but somehow do.”
The chief creatives of both brands met at the Samuel & Sons showroom in Paris, surrounded by ornamental trimmings, tassels and braids, with a single brief: “go wild.”
“Our relationship with Pooky evolved over a few years, but right from the start, we talked about how our trims could complement what Pooky does so brilliantly,” said Samuel & Sons President Michael Cohen. “As soon as Jo stepped in with her creative vision, we knew we had something special.”
Cohen said the company has spent years reimagining trim as “an essential design element that introduces texture, color and personality.”
“Everyone does fringe on a lampshade, so we’ve taken it up a notch,” added Plant.
Among the new pieces is the Taos pendant which features Pooky’s woven ikat fabrics embellished with embroidered borders and tassels. New Margaux shades are made of pleated silk with a gold gathered lining, while Cretain Scallop shades are made of linen with complementary waved trimmings.
