Bernardaud acquires fellow French porcelain maker
Both legacy brands are known for their handpainted, handcrafted high-end dinnerware and accessories.
LIMOGES, France – Porcelain manufacturer Bernardaud has purchased 100% of the shares of Haviland, a fellow porcelain maker, for an undisclosed sum. Both companies are based in Limoges, France, and share a long history, as Haviland was founded in 1842, and Bernardaud in 1863.
“This merger represents a historic opportunity for both companies to combine their skills, know-how and resources, ensuring the preservation of an exceptional legacy while preparing for a prosperous future that respects their distinct identities,” a release said.
Both companies are legacy brands known for their handpainted, handcrafted high-end dinnerware and accessories – Haviland china was even featured on the front page of The New York Times‘ Jan. 5 edition. They also both had a robust presence in the U.S. at retail and trade shows and it’s unclear how this acquisition will impact their U.S. businesses.
Haviland will continue to manufacture its collections in its Limoges workshops, the release added, benefiting from Bernardaud’s resources and expertise.
