Houzz Winter Trends report says festive homeowners prize functionality
The report highlights increasing interest in flexible furniture, seasonal décor, along with a mix of rounded and angular design elements.
PALO ALTO, Calif.—A new report from Houzz is shedding light on how homeowners are focusing on multifunctional spaces, festive décor and modern design elements as 2024 draws to a close.
The 2024 Houzz U.S. Emerging Winter Trends Report, based on user search data from January to September of 2023 and 2024, indicates that the platforms users have a desire for stylish comfort, with functionality and flexibility key concerns as well.
Searches for space-saving furniture like “kitchen islands with a drop leaf” increased 3.5 times compared to the same period last year. “Pop-up trundle daybeds” also saw a threefold increase, reflecting a need for versatile furniture for hosting guests. Interest in organization is also up, with searches for “professional organizers” increasing 1.5 times.
Seasonal decor is also popular, with searches for “green decorative pillows” up nearly four times and “blue decorative pillows” up two times. Searches for “wool rugs” increased 1.5 times, likely due to their comfort and stain-resistant properties.
Modern design elements are also gaining traction. Searches for “arched cabinets” nearly tripled, while “oval mirrors” increased 41%. The report also noted a 5.5-fold increase specifically for “oval bathroom vanity mirrors.”
Searches for “square coffee tables” and “checkerboard floors” also increased 1.5 times, suggesting a trend of pairing rounded and angular shapes.
The report’s data reflects year-over-year growth in U.S.-based searches on Houzz from January-September 2024 versus January-September 2023.
