What to expect from Home Accents Today in 2025

Happy New Year!

A new year offers another chance for reinvention and a fresh start, but I believe that seizing the opportunity to build and improve on what is already working can, in the long run, be way more satisfying.

This is one of the reasons why we editors, when covering trade shows, have started to ask, “What’s your best collection from the last market, and how are you enhancing it?” instead of only looking for what’s brand-new. We’ll be asking that question a lot in Dallas, Atlanta and Las Vegas this month.

It is also why we are thrilled to unveil the January issue of Home Accents Today, which builds on some of our most well-established and eagerly followed features with contributions from new thought leaders. For example, Notable, formerly known as New & Noteworthy, introduces five new trend advisors to our fold: Saana Baker of The Textile Eye, Keith Recker of Table magazine, Leigh Ann Schwarzkopf of Project Partners Network, Madeline Stewart of Mustard Seed Market, and Erika Woelfel of Behr Paint Company. They hit the ground running this month with five great products, merchandising or lifestyle concepts to consider. You can read more about them and what they bring to our monthly trend discussion on page 16.

Meanwhile, our initial group of trend advisors, who signed on two years ago to regularly contribute to our inaugural New & Noteworthy section, have become our trend ambassadors. Patti Carpenter, Nancy Fire, Michelle Lamb, Tom Mirabile and Kristen Moonjian will provide commentary on trends, sustainability, fashion, consumer behavior and lifestyle shifts throughout the year in new formats. Keep an eye out for them in these pages in the coming months.

In Design Coaching Center, our longtime Retailer to Retailer columnist Cheryl Clendenon of In Detail Interiors outlines five business practices that you need to evaluate — or consider for the first time — as the new year gets underway, while in Elevated Retail, HAT Retail Star Nancy Mikulich explains what prompted her to open a retail store on the Jersey Shore and how being a home décor retailer has enhanced her interior design business.

We have additional contributors lined up to provide perspective on the home décor business in 2025 — stay tuned to see how we build an even better Home Accents Today this year!
