Capitol Lighting makes acquisition

BOCA RATON, Fla. — Capitol Lighting, a lighting showroom that operates its physical and digital business under the name 1800lighting, has acquired the Bellacor brand and its associated digital assets for an undisclosed sum.

The Bellacor Shop offered many categories of home décor as well as an array of other product categories including apparel for men, women and children, beauty products, stationery, electronic gadgets, snacks and toys.

“We have always admired the Bellacor brand,” Capitol Lighting CEO Ken Lebersfeld told Home Accents Today. “Bellacor, until very recently, had a longstanding reputation for excellent products and customer service. Capitol has supported many of the same brands as Bellacor and are evaluating those brands that we have not supported.”

Business of Home reported earlier this year that Bellacor’s e-commerce site had abruptly shut down. During Capitol Lighting’s conversations about purchasing its assets, Bellacor shut down its website, Lebersfeld said.

“While we can’t comment specifically on how Bellacor operated their business prior to our acquisition, they faced challenges that made continuing operations impossible for them,” he said.

Capitol Lighting acquired Bellacor’s digital assets — its trademarks, URLs, databases and customer lists — through an ABC (Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors). “We are not at liberty to disclose the details of the transaction,” Lebersfeld said.

Currently the Bellacor brand and Capitol Lighting’s 1800lighting.com will continue to operate storefronts. Capitol Lighting’s service teams will handle all operations and fulfillment.

Through the acquisition, Capitol Lighting, a family-run business founded in 1924, has an opportunity to broaden its product offerings. The retailer carries ceiling, wall and outdoor lighting from a wide array of manufacturers and designers and also carries mirrors, artwork, wall décor and area rugs.

“We are excited for this opportunity to serve Bellacor’s loyal retail and design customers. We intend to thrill them with new service tools and capabilities. It was a 100th birthday gift we bought for ourselves,” Lebersfeld said.
