Designer duo Chris Loves Julia talks Loloi rugs and personal style
The new Loloi collections include hand-tufted rugs, printed rugs and the couple’s first outdoor rug line.
HIGH POINT – Designer duo Chris and Julia Marcum, who have been taking Instagram by storm for almost a decade now, came to High Point to promote their new collections with rug company Loloi.
The collections include hand-tufted rugs, affordable printed rugs and the couple’s first outdoor rug line, which customers have been requesting for a while now, according to Julia Marcum.
The couple talked with Home Accents Today editor Anne Flynn Wear about working with Loloi and what’s coming up next for them.
“It is just so fun to meet people that you interact with online in tiny moments,” Chris said about the couple’s Meet and Greet with customers in the Loloi showroom during the recent High Point Market.
“Being able to get hundreds of stories in a short amount of time, with people saying, ‘Look what I did in my house’ is so very rewarding,” Julia added.
They value being able to be truly collaborative with their audience, the couple said.
“We are known for mixing patterns and adding moody modern colors,” Julia said. “We are going to give people the option to choose a bold traditional pattern in a rug or they could do wallpaper and one of our rugs will nicely pair well with busy wallpaper.”
The couple says they focus on personal style first to allow people to access the pieces and make them their own.
“Originally, just being consumers ourselves, we spent time searching and finding items that were close, but not exactly what we were looking for,” Chris said.
Now, as product designers themselves, they can design products that fit their specifications exactly, which the couple said is very rewarding.
“Being able to work on the product design side and just say this is exactly what I want,” Chris said. “And you get the samples back and you’re like this is it. This is exactly what I’ve been wanting to find and haven’t been able to find.”
The Marcum’s have also had several new launches this year with Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Teens and Pottery Barn Kids.
“We have some more exciting things coming next year, too,” Julia said. “It’s just really fun. It used to be this is what I would just recommend in this whole space. And now to be able to really hand design things for our audience in mind and their needs is great.”
