Homeware brand Joseph Joseph has launched a floor-cleaning system designed to keep clean and dirty water separate during use, as captured in this video featured on Dezeen.

Called UltraClean, the product rethinks a common cleaning process that typically involves reusing dirty water during mopping, which can spread grime across surfaces rather than remove it.

At the centre of the design is a patented SprayClean mechanism that cleans and refreshes the mop pad each time it is returned to the bucket.

As the mop is inserted, a built-in scraper blade squeezes and agitates the microfibre pad to remove dirt and debris, which is then channelled into a separate compartment.

At the same time, six nozzles spray fresh water onto the pad, while a separate chamber collects dirty water and keeps it isolated.

This process allows users to mop floors using only clean water, resulting in what the brand describes as a more hygienic and effective clean.

Floors dry quickly due to a controlled water distribution, which helps prevent excess moisture on surfaces.

According to Joseph Joseph, the system was developed over four years in response to inefficiencies in conventional floor-cleaning tools.

The bucket includes a 1.4-litre clean-water reservoir, which the brand says can cover up to 70 square metres without needing to be refilled.

The mop features a rotating head designed to reach tight spaces and lie flat to clean beneath furniture, while the microfibre pad is machine washable.

The mop is intended to streamline cleaning by allowing users to clean and rinse continuously without needing to pause or refill the bucket.

The mop forms part of the brand's CleanTech range, a collection of cleaning tools designed for different surfaces across the home ranging from bathroom tiles to windows and skirting boards.

Joseph Joseph said the system forms part of its ongoing focus on redesigning everyday household tools.

"UltraClean reflects Joseph Joseph's belief that every product should earn its place in the home," said the brand. "That 'good enough' is never the goal."

Joseph Joseph is a London-based homeware brand founded in 2003 by twin brothers Antony and Richard Joseph.

Previous products featured on Dezeen include space-saving waste bins designed by PearsonLloyd and an all-in-one tool for cutting, de-stoning and slicing avocados.
