Lighting we loved at Shoppe Object

NEW YORK – Shoppe Object took place earlier this week in Manhattan, and among the many innovative and captivating product designs were several new lighting options. Here are five lighting designs that made us do a double-take while perusing the two floors of the Starrett-Lehigh Building where the show takes place:
British brand Gingko‘s mushroom-shaped rechargeable lamps offer two types of illumination with a simple tap: warm light for reading, or, with a second tap, a range of color options that cycle through until you tap to select your preferred color. They are crafted from a variety of woods like white ash and walnut. They can be delivered in four days and any orders below $2,000 are charged a flat fee of $85 for shipping.
Also from Gingko is the new Twist Hexagon light. It flattens down to a slim disk on a lanyard that you can throw into your bag; pull it apart and it telescopes into a sturdy little light.
Fine Lumens, a Chinese design brand with a Canadian distributor based in Toronto, also makes rechargeable reading lamps, but these are made from colorful ABS plastic and have a rotating head that can swivel in almost any direction you want. These received a Good Design Award.
Nella Home was founded in 2023 by SCAD grad Caitlyn Campanella, who began her work on 3-D printed modular lamps while still in school. Each piece is printed using PLA, a compostable plastic made from plants, and is tested for light diffusion, modular fit, durability and the ‘wow’ factor. There are corded and rechargeable options, including a brand-new wall sconce that can double as a table lamp, all in pretty pastel shades.
Peaches, a Portland, Ore.-based company, started off creating ceramic tableware before transitioning to lighting. Its petite, slip-casted LED lamps are dimmable and come in a variety of sizes and finishes, whether you prefer terra cotta or a glazed surface.
