New European lighting designs make waves | Lighting Report
This week, we bring you new lighting designs from overseas.

German design brand Ingo Maurer has released Nalum, a pendant light designed by Sebastian Hepting that captures the ever-changing reflections of light and the rhythmic movement of waves across water. At its core is a floating, undulating glass tube that creates mesmerizing lines of light through a series of reflections.

Continuing the theme of ocean waves, Lodes‘ Tidal collection, a collaboration with Needs Studio, is a die-cast aluminum, ring-shaped luminaire with one end wider than the other to depict both high and low tide. The unique composition allows for the lamp to shift dramatically in perspective depending on its relation to the viewer. It can be dimmed via a wall switch and comes in four finishes. It is available as a ceiling mount or a new pendant version.

Ginger & Jagger, a Portuguese design company whose products are inspired by nature, has a new floor lamp called The Etna that is meant to convey the flow of lava through rock. It is a thin vertical lamp made of marble with a thin channel running through it that is the light source.

Italian brand Foscarini has launched Asteria, a modern chandelier design by Alberto and Francesco Meda that reinterprets the multi-arm chandelier by paring it back to its essentials. The heart of the design is the arm: a curved profile of extruded aluminum with a triangular section that carries the light source along its upper edge. A recessed LED spot at the base adds a focused beam of downward light, and the arms and spot can be dimmed separately.
