Picture this: A new lighting category for Currey
Currey & Company is delving into the picture light category with 15 new designs that will be presented during High Point Market this week.
The sustainable lights are finished in brass, nickel, bronze and black, each engineered with new LED technology; and one version, the Pendleton, has touchless controls for on/off and dimming. The lights are designed to give the best quality color with little or no heat emitted, an essential consideration for art preservation, according to Currey.
“Whether you buy art from an artist, a gallery or a flea market, each piece requires good lighting to be truly appreciated when displayed. Proper lighting can make even the most basic artwork special,” the company said in a release. “Because paintings, textiles, and photography can be easily damaged by ultraviolent and infrared light, today’s LED technology is engineered so that pitfalls of harmful light can be avoided.”
Among the introductions are these three patterns:

The Patterson Brass Picture Light is made of brass in an antique brass finish. The single-bulb gallery light has a classic feel, with knurling at the removable ring. The neck has a swivel and can be positioned for precise alignment with the artwork. The Patterson is dimmable.

The Parsifal Large Brass Picture Light is made of brass in an antique brass finish. With two lights inserted into its elongated form, the gold gallery light has subtle hints of a bamboo motif. The metal shades rotate to align properly with the artwork. The Parsifal is dimmable.

The Pendleton Large Brass Picture Light is made of metal in a brushed brass finish. With its square wall plate and curved, elongated shade, the gold gallery light brings a distinctly modern sensibility to the picture light. The integrated LED makes this an eco-friendly fixture. The Pendleton turns on/off and is dimmed by a simple hand wave under the sensor at the front of the light.
