WHITESTOWN, Ind. – Rug and furniture supplier Safavieh will invest $62 million in a new 601,000-square-foot warehouse in Whitestown, Ind. The warehouse will join an existing 470,000-square-foot facility also in Whitestown.

Construction of the new facility has already begun and is set to finish in July 2025. The company will hire 60 new employees to work at the new facility, with hiring set to finish by 2027.

According to documents submitted to the city of Whitestown, Safavieh is planning to invest $62 million in the project. That investment includes $45 million in real property, $6 million in personal property, and $11 million in land costs.

To incentivize the investment, the Whitestown Town Council approved a five-year property tax abatement, which is contingent on Safavieh hiring 60 workers with a collective annual payroll of $2.7 million. The average estimated payrate is $22 per hour.

The abatement will begin at 100% for the first year, with subsequent 20% step-downs each year for five years. It’s expected to save the company a total of $1.95 million.

“Safavieh has enjoyed our business relationship with Boone County over the past nearly five years,” the company said. “We look forward to being active in the community with investment, hiring employees, and being entrenched with the community.”

Safavieh was founded by Kazem Yaraghi in 1914 as an exporter Persian rugs. The company specializes in rugs but offers furniture, lighting and accessories for nearly every room of the home.
