Wood Furniture Scorecard released. Which retailers scored high marks?
The initiative, in its seventh year, measures the wood sourcing practices and performances and additional actions of 119 retailers.
HIGH POINT — The Sustainable Furnishings Council and National Wildlife Federation released results of the 2024 Wood Furniture Scorecard, which spotlights retail companies making significant strides in responsible wood sourcing.
The 2024 WFS marks the seventh year of the initiative.
The retailers are scored on responsible wood sourcing policy, responsible sourcing practices and performance and additional actions, with a total of 41 possible points. In all, 119 retailers were assessed.
“The 2024 results show that furniture retailers are increasingly prioritizing sustainable wood sourcing, driven by growing consumer demand for environmentally responsible products,” said Scarlette Tapp, executive director of the Sustainable Furnishings Council. “We are thrilled to see so many companies leading the way toward more sustainable supply chains.”
Retailers in the Top Scoring category earned 30 or more points. They include Model N0, Cisco Home, FormR, Room & Board, Sabai, Ikea, Minted Space and Walter E. Smithe.
The High Scoring category included retailers who garnered between 19 and 29 points. Honorees were Sea Green Designs, Hoot Judkins, Urban Natural, Williams-Sonoma, Target, The Arrangement, Blu Dot, La-Z-Boy, LaDiff, Stoney Creek Furniture, Crate & Barrel, Re.Dwell, Vermont Woods Studios, HOM Furniture, Loose Parts and Tepperman’s.
Additionally, a Most Improved designation is awarded to a retailer that earned at least 10 points more than in previous years, but less than the High Score threshold. Ethan Allen picked up this honor.
“Each year, an increasing number of companies are recognizing their critical role in protecting natural forests and the profound impact deforestation has on climate change,” said Barbara Bramble, vice president of international conservation and corporate strategies at the National Wildlife Federation. “With more furniture retailers setting public commitments to harvest wood sustainably and report their progress, the scorecard empowers consumers and helps shift us toward a more sustainable industry.”
