Steelcase tops industry in latest climate disclosure

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich—Office and contract furniture giant Steelcase has received high marks for its sustainability efforts from the world’s leading environmental disclosure platform.

The organization earned a top score of A- from CDP, previously known as the Climate Disclosure Project, for its commitment to environmental strategy and action. Steelcase is the only firm in its industry to earn this top distinction, which only 5% of the some 23,000+ companies surveyed in 2023 achieved.

CDP is a global nonprofit running the world’s leading environmental disclosure platform. Steelcase has disclosed its sustainability progress through CDP’s platform since 2011, seeing continual improvement in the face of increasingly stringent criteria.

Beth O’Shaughnessy, senior vice president, chief administrative officer, general counsel and secretary for Steelcase, said the company is “grateful to be recognized by CDP…for our work to reduce our impact on the environment.

“As designers and makers, we are acutely aware that our work impacts the planet. We are committed to taking critical, science-based actions across our entire organization to reduce our role in climate change, and to build a more sustainable and resilient future,” she continued.

Sherry Madera, chief executive officer of CDP, lauded Steelcase’s steps to ensure transparency in its environmental impact. “By sharing its environmental data with CDP, Steelcase is continuing an environmental journey that will contribute to keeping that future in sight,” Madera said.

Founded in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1912, Steelcase is a publicly traded company with fiscal year 2023 revenue totaling $3.2 billion.
