Decorative pillow maker Caldeira leverages expanded sourcing reach

New York – Caldeira’s new decorative pillow collections embody a geopolitical-proof mix of internationally sourced fabrications.

The assortment introduced last week during New York Home Fashions market includes Turkish jacquards, Spanish tapestries, Belgian velvets and sustainably-produced styles.

“We’re turning to Belgium, Spain and Turkey for new goods that present fantastic product alternatives for our retailer partners, so that they don’t have to put all their eggs in the Chinese basket and instead have options – whatever happens in November,” he explained. “When things get out of control, we will be here to keep business steady,” said Tony Caldeira, president of Caldeira.

He added: “Because we supply to retailers at all levels, we make sure we have something for everyone.”

The new Cozy Living collection includes:

  • Turkish cut velvets made of Global Recycled Standard (GRS)-certified polyester
  • Soft chenilles in floral and zig-zag patterns
  • Heavy boucles with flange edge and chunky zipper with faux leather pull
  • Linen pillows with sheepskin trim
  • Belgian cut velvets with boucle grounds, made of Lenzing “Ecovero” viscose and dope dyed polyester
  • Spanish toile flatweave jacquards
  • Spanish cotton picas with flange edge

The Modern Folk collection includes:

  • Spanish tapestries
  • Faux linen pillows with GRS-certified polyester velvet piping
  • Turkish jacquards and tufted textured fabrics
  • Shearling that is ethically sourced as a byproduct of food
  • Belgian cut velvets made of Lenzing “Ecovero” viscose and dope dyed polyester
  • Textured chenilles

“Retailers are looking to elevate their assortments with products that feature elevated styles because shoppers are willing to trade up and pay more when the perceived value is there,” said Rachel Griffiths, Caldiera’s VP of sales. “We’re meeting that need by elevating our looks, adding glam-inspired features like fringe and fur edges, textured fabrics, boucles, velours, and products that are made sustainably, like what we are manufacturing at Oeko-Tex-certified mills in Belgium.”

Ahead of fall New York market, Caldeira moved into a 1,000-square-foot, open-plan space in suite 202 at 230 Fifth Avenue. This year marks Caldeira’s 10th anniversary as a tenant of the building.
