Gift for Life sets Home vs Hunger ‘non-event’ for market

HIGH POINT — At the upcoming fall High Point Market, Gift For Life’s Home vs Hunger team invites market attendees to an event that doesn’t actually exist.

In place of its usual “Party with a Purpose,” the Home vs Hunger Non-Event event offers marketgoers the chance to skip another cocktail party and instead make a meaningful impact by donating directly to World Central Kitchen.

Home vs Hunger is asking participants to “buy a ticket” to the non-event, and every dollar raised goes directly to , which can provide a full meal to people in crisis for just $3.

“High Point Market is overflowing with showroom parties, so we decided to do something different,” said Russ Jones, Gift for Life board member and Home vs Hunger Event chair. “By skipping the party and donating instead, attendees can turn the cost of one market martini into two hot meals for people in need.”

How it works

  • Donate online during High Point Market (Oct. 25–29).
  • Snap a picture of yourself enjoying a drink while doing good.
  • Tag @GiftForLife to spread the word.

The Home vs Hunger says that prices of one market martini can provide two hot meals, one Uber across town can feed a family, and one charcuterie board can provide a week’s worth of groceries.

Gift for Life’s Home Vs Hunger initiative, which debuted at High Point Market in October 2022, has now raised more than $112,000 through various fundraising activities. Its goal for this non-event is $25,000 to support World Central Kitchen’s efforts.
