Rug Report: New luxury offerings; Armadillo receives environmental recognition

HIGH POINT – This week’s rug news includes a new collection of rugs from the partnership of luxury brand Stark and Italian fashion house Missoni, the introduction of the new Ganges collection from Jamie Stern Carpet and an update on Australian rug brand Armadillo.

The new collection from Stark and Missoni includes a diverse range of offerings, including nine stocked rug styles, five custom rug styles and 10 new carpet styles.

“Missoni is pivotal in design and the new collection lends texture and color that works well with a multitude of aesthetics,” said Ashley Stark, creative director. “To use them, I suggest designing from the floor up, meaning, make the rug the base of your design and move forward from there. A great rug for this approach is the new Missoni Deep Stripe. It mixes silk and metal yarns to create dynamic texture and color.”

The new Ganges collection from Jamie Stern Carpet includes natural fiber rugs that are hand-loomed by artisan weavers with a cut and loop pile construction. Made with New Zealand wool and bamboo silk, Ganges continues the company’s commitment to championing 100% natural, biodegradable fibers.

Ganges is also part of the Naturals Collection, which consists of 20 textures produced with hand-tufted, hand-knotted and hand-loomed options, using pure New Zealand wool, bamboo silk, hemp, linen and nettle partnered with handmade production techniques.

Armadillo, the Australian rug brand known for its commitment to sustainability, has just recertified as a B Corp. This marks a significant milestone for the brand, as Armadillo said it not only attained the highest score of any rug brand globally but also ranks among the top five in the broader furniture category.

Founded in 2009 with a mission to create rugs that “tread lightly on the Earth,” Armadillo was the first Australian and American rugmaker to be B Corp certified in 2021. Maintaining B Corp status involves assessing five areas – governance, workers, customers, community and the environment – every three years.

“To us, leaving a positive impact on people and the planet is a process of continual improvement and not just a box to be ticked,” said Alarna Rose, Armadillo’s head of purpose.
